The Nigerian Institute of Welding is the authorized national body applicant member of the the International Institute of Welding and the only organization duly registered in the country and globally recognized to promote global best practices in the field of welding and allied technology in Nigeria. Its primary objective is the development of local welding and allied technology leading to industrial advancement and technological sustenance on both local and global levels. The Institute executes its mandate of welding supervision, education and qualification of personnel through its array of technical collaboration and capacity building efforts.

As an Authorised National Board (ANB), it is certified to run IIW qualification examinations directly. The scope of approval of NIW covers the following International Institute of Welding (IIW) qualification examination cadres:

• International Welder(IW)
• International Welding Practioner(IWP)
• International Welding Specialist(IWS)
• Internation Welding Inspection Personnel(IWIP)
• International Welding Technologist(IWT)
• International Welding Engineer(IWE)
